The Best of the Med

When I think of the Mediterranean I think of blue skies, clear waters, long white beaches, beautiful white washed buildings and for some strange reason olives… Whatever it is that you associate with the Med it’s undeniable that it has a huge choice of fantastic locations in beautiful surroundings. To celebrate all things Mediterranean we’ve picked out the best of the Med to help inspire you for your next getaway.

Holidays to Majorca – Always a firm favourite for holidaymakers, this Balearic Island has a huge choice of resorts giving a good selection of beaches, culture and family fun. Alcudia, Cala D’or and Santa Ponsa are perfect for lazy days at the beach with plenty to do for the little ones. Those looking for culture can explore Palmanova’s castle and for all night dancing head to the infamous Magaluf. Wherever you stay on the island make sure you enjoy the beautiful beaches and try some delicious tapas.

Holidays to Zante  - One of the most scenic of the Greek islands Zante, or Zakynthos as it’s traditionally called, provides you with a breathtaking coastline with long white beaches and hidden coves to explore. Families will enjoy Tsilivi which has been given a blue flag seal of approval for its beaches. Party lovers will embrace the nightlife that Laganas has to offer with a huge strip of bars and nightclubs to choose from. Zante Town and Kefalonia are also top spots to head to where you can enjoy Greek tradition and architecture in wonderful surroundings.

Holidays to Malta – A picturesque island just south of Italy, Malta is highly recommended. The busiest resorts are Bugibba and Qawra which have dramatic cliff tops and are very popular diving destinations where you can discover Malta’s famous underwater wreck. St Julian’s has more of a party atmosphere with late night clubs and exclusive bars.  If you visit the city of Valetta you’ll be greeted with elaborate buildings, palaces and museums all moulded around a harbour. Although Malta is at its best in the summer season it is also a winter sun location due to the mild climate.

Holidays to Dalaman – Turkey is a fabulous destination to head to with dazzling beaches, scrumptious cuisine and plenty of sunshine. Dalaman, situated on the south west coast, is one of the best areas of the country with iconic beaches and buzzing atmosphere. There’s Marmaris, one of the biggest resorts in Turkey, with plenty of entertainment, lively beaches and nightlife. There’s Feithye, which offers tranquil and stunning holidays by the sea; make sure you visit Olu Deniz beach if you’re close by. And there’s Dalyan, which is very traditional and has the famous mud baths. Turkey is great for sun lovers as the temperatures soar in the peak of summer, hitting the 40’s at its hottest.

Holidays to Crete – The largest of the Greek islands, Crete is beautiful, tranquil, lively, bustling and secluded all rolled into one. For family time on the beach head to Hersonissos and Elouda and maybe try your hand at the many water sports on offer. Fun-seekers should head to Malia (where the Inbetweeners was set by the way), which is full of pubs, bars and restaurants open all hours. If you want to see a traditional side of Greece then visit Chania and soak up the harbour and white washed buildings whilst eating in the many traditional restaurants.

Where is your favourite place to visit in the Med? Is there anywhere you think we’ve left out?
